Ms. Sue Lomasney
Ms. Lomasney is a 5th degree National Karate Black Belt. She originally earned her Black Belt in 1987 while living in Madison WI. Ms. Lomasney was a top competitor in the Wisconsin Professional Karate Association (WPKA) as well as the North Central Karate Association (NCKA). In 1988, while attending the University of Minnesota, Ms. Lomasney decided to train with and earn her Black Belt with National Karate. “Having associated with all the National Karate Instructors while competing I was impressed with the discipline, attitude and leadership of their organization. When I moved to Minneapolis there was no question who I wanted to train with,” says Ms. Lomasney.
Ms. Lomasney is National Karate’s most successful female competitor in its over 30 year history. She has won almost every North Central Karate Association’s title as well as many North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) Grand Championships, including the coveted Diamond Ring at the 2006 Diamond Nationals. She even entered a full contact kickboxing match in which she easily defeated her opponent. She is respected and recognized around the country as a great tournament competitor.
While being a great competitor is important to Ms. Lomasney, her greatest love is helping others to feel the benefits of training in the martial arts. She says, "Training in the martial arts has been the greatest life experience I have had and I want others to benefit from all it has to offer. It has taught me how to overcome obstacles and achieve more than I ever thought possible.”
Ms. Lomasney has been recognized as an “Instructor of the Year” by the National Karate Board of Directors and is a role model to other instructors as well as her students. “She has taught me to respect myself and others as well as inspiring me to be my best,” says her student, Ms. Ashley Christensen. Ms. Lomasney constantly challenges her students to be their best and to reach their potential. She believes everyone can benefit from training in the martial arts and that it will have positive results in all parts of a student's life.
She and her husband Mr. Gregg Sutherland own and operate the Andover and Ramsey National Karate Schools.
