Growing Up in National Karate
“From an early age I knew that I wanted to be in a karate school. I loved the people, the atmosphere, the structure, and the overall feel of being in the school. I grew up taking classes, getting my first black belt in 2000, and teaching classes at NK. I learned many of my life lessons from my experiences in karate.
When I graduated from college, and the opportunity arose to open my own National Karate location, I was beyond happy to continue doing what I loved as a career. I opened my first National Karate location in Sartell in 2008, went from being the director of one location to three locations, and spent my time working between the different locations. Recently, I slowed down to focus on my family, and I now own and operate the Albertville location.
My daughter is 4, and currently takes classes at NK. My son is 2 and is very excited to be old enough to take classes also. I am involved in many aspects of our NK organization and feel lucky to have such a tight knit group of owners who continue to improve our curriculum and our organization as a whole.” – Christa Boone.
A Life Built Through Martial Arts
“I started karate at the age of 8, after begging my mom to let me try classes. I walked in the door of the Brooklyn Park location, and years later, in 2019, this school became the National Karate location I now own and operate. I spent many years taking classes, got my first black belt in 2001, training to compete, and traveling to various sport karate tournaments.
As I got older, I started training in kickboxing and have done 9 kickboxing matches undefeated. I also teach and am certified expert level in Krav Maga. I feel fortunate that I started teaching at the Brooklyn Park location and spent the majority of my teaching years as the director of that location. In addition, teaching at multiple other NK locations has added to my skills as an instructor.
“We have known each other through the National Karate organization since we were children. Over the years we have been competitors, friends, adversaries, and collaborated on various projects in our organization. Karate is a binding force in our lives, and it brought us together. We got married in 2019, have two children together, and continue to build our businesses as a family. We are fortunate that we are both passionate about martial arts and it truly gets to be who we are every day.” – Joe & Christa Boone.
