About Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove National Karate
Brooklyn Park/Maple Grove National Karate provides top quality martial arts and fitness training for ages 4 through adults of all walks of life. With a variety of accommodations possible and talented instructors, all ages and abilities are encouraged to start. 6th Degree Black Belt Owner, Director, and Head Instructor Joe Boone has been teaching for over 20 years, and prides himself on the excellent quality and sportsmanship of everyone he trains. BPNK originally opened in [year] and we’ve been at our current location on the border of Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove since 2022.
Students at BPNK join a community that feels like family. We constantly challenge each other to be the best we can be under the training from nationally and globally ranked instructors. No matter what goal, whether it’s gaining confidence, competing nationally, or achieving the rank of First Degree Black Belt and beyond, students can expect to have instructors and others cheering them on every step of the way.
Our new space has two separate classrooms and two additional work-out spaces to accommodate not only our karate classes, but also krav maga, cardio kick-boxing, full contact fighting and yoga. Each classroom has space for a view lobby – parents are encouraged to watch but it is not required for older individuals. We have men’s and women’s locker rooms for students to change and hold any belongings during class.
Classes are offered Monday through Saturday. We are open on weekdays from 4:30pm to 9pm on weekdays and 8am to 1:15 pm on Saturdays. Class duration for our beginner belts and 4-6 years old program are 30 minutes. For all other levels, classes range from 45 minutes to an hour.
When not in the classroom, our instructors also run self-defense seminars at different communities’ gyms and groups. In the summer, you can also find our students marching in various Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove parades and festivals.
There is something for everyone at BPNK, call or stop by to start your martial arts or fitness journey, today!

Meet our Leadership Team & Instructors
Meet our Owner, Director, and Head Instructor Mr. Joe Boone! Mr. Boone, a 6th Degree Black Belt, has been teaching with National Karate for over 20 years, and running schools for over 10 years. He first earned his black belt in 2001 at the original Brooklyn Park school. In his early competitive career, he was most widely known for his creative bo forms with his brother on Team Boone, and point sparring with team Straight Up. Since 2013 he has been focusing on his Kickboxing and MMA career with a combined record of 11-1. While he loved traveling and competing, his passion now is in his students. Many of Brooklyn Park’s black belts are top ranked in the region and the country.
Mr. Boone prioritizes spending time with his three kids, plus his pup, Frank. As a long term National Karate Instructor, Mr. Boone has had the opportunity to tie on hundreds of Black Belts for his students over the years. About his own experience, Mr. Boone says “Martial Arts has taught me to turn into pressure, both physically and mentally.”
